The Boise State University Creative Writing Program provides a comprehensive curriculum while enabling students to explore and pursue individual interests. Our multi-disciplinary focus on creativity, storytelling, empathy and poetics develops the professional skills valued in today’s workplace. Students can prepare for jobs in the private sector, hone their writing skills for publication and develop a portfolio for applying to an MFA program.

BA in Creative Writing
A traditional creative writing degree of 120 credits with coursework in literature and literary studies.
An intensive program of 120 credits that prepares students to be professional writers. There are currently 35 BFA degrees in creative writing in the U.S.
The only degree of its kind in the nation, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Narrative Arts offers students an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to learning the fundamentals of storytelling across all genres, including film, television and theater. This 120-credit, flexible degree allows students to gain experience in playwriting, screenplays, fiction, non-fiction and story analysis. With electives in journalism, acting, film production, psychology and more, the BFA in Narrative Arts allows students to explore their passions while providing a strong foundation in the art of narrative.
The Creative Writing MFA Program at Boise State is a fully-funded three-year program dedicated to poetry and fiction. The MFA program is staffed by award-winning faculty and hosts renowned visiting writers each year.
